Using cognitive-conceptual analysis, the variants of of contensive correlation in verb formation of the English analytical phrasal verbs (with postpositions out, in) and German synthetic in nature prefixal verbs (with prefixes aus-,auf, ein-) with analytical derivation are considered. Notional (conceptual) synonymity of the role of of the corresponding English verbal postpositions and German prefixes in this process of perfective verb formation is analyzed.

The English phrasal verbs are analyzed as the analytical verb lexemes. The analysis is carried out through the binary role of the postpositions in these verbs – word-building and conceptual from the synchronic and diachronic view-points. The conceptual sets of the postpositions are presented and characterized. Special attention is devoted the postposition up.
