The article considers one of the higher mental functions – thinking, types of thinking and the place of a given mental function among other functions of the psyche.

This article describes a way to solve the problem of the formation of students' informal knowledge in the study of physics. Particular attention is paid to the organization of the process of mastering of the elements of physical knowledge, which was built in accordance with the theory of stage formation of mental actions. The exercises enabling students to learn how to find gas work by analytical and graphical ways where developed.
